Matthias Mainz gründete das Trio mit dem französischen Oud-Solisten Gregory Dargent und dem türkisch-französischen Cellisten Anil Eraslan im Herbst 2019, um in Erinnerung an die Traditionen des Klaviertrios frei mit Anleihen zeitgenössischer improvisierter- und komponierter- wie aussereuropäischer Musiken spielen zu können. Die Instrumentierung mit der Oud statt einer Violine legt zahlreiche klangliche Assoziationen nahe, die weit über die Kontexte von Spätromantik, Neuer Musik oder Jazz hinaus gehen. Mit erweiterten Spieltechniken, einem mikrotonalen Keyboard und Live-Elektronik können Improvisationen der drei Musiker die Grenzen zur Elektronischen Musik und Noise überschreiten.

Matthias Mainz founded the trio with the French oud soloist Gregory Dargent and the Turkish-French cellist Anil Eraslan in the fall of 2019 in order to be able to play freely with borrowings from contemporary improvised and composed as well as non-European music in memory of the traditions of the piano trio. Instrumenting with the oud instead of a violin suggests numerous sonic associations that go far beyond the contexts of late romanticism, new music, or jazz. With extended playing techniques, a microtonal keyboard and live electronics, improvisations by the three musicians can cross the boundaries into electronic music and noise.
